Dr. Chiniwala grew up in India, did her residency in New York and spent twenty years as a hospital physician, nine of them as a teaching attending. She says she wanted to prevent illness, not just manage crises, so she did a fellowship in the integrative medicine program Andrew Weil founded and opened a small primary-care practice in Park Slope.

Approach

A full hour up front: symptoms, history, diet, exercise and stress, then a physical exam. The plan leans on nutrition and lifestyle, with supplements, herbs or prescriptions where they fit, plus bloodwork if needed. Follow-ups run 45 minutes, usually within six to eight weeks, and can be by video once your first visit's been in person.

Who They're Great For

The girl who's had her bloating, constipation or constant tiredness shrugged off in ten-minute appointments and wants a doctor who'll give it a full hour. She gets an MD who can prescribe but weighs food, movement and stress just as heavily, if paying out of network works for her.
